Chris is a licensed clinician in the state of Massachusetts practicing Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy with adolescents and children. He currently works with inner city students where his focus is on behavior modification, behavior management, academic success, behavior change, crisis intervention, individual counseling, anti-bullying and school improvement.
Chris has significant experience in direct care and treatment of children with emotional and behavioral difficulties as well as teaching others how to work with a behavioral population. He has a strong background in Behaviorism, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Collaborative Problem Solving, Family Systems Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and other evidence based approaches.
Chris holds a Bachelors in Behavioral Psychology and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts. He holds licenses as a Mental Health Counselor, School Adjustment Counselor, and School Guidance Counselor. He is also a Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) instructor and teaches Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) de-escalation skills and physical management to agencies.
In addition to his psychology background Chris is also the founder and head instructor at Smarter Self Defense where he teaches evidence based self defense. Chris incorporates his scientific, data driven approach to his martial arts utilizing Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts, Ground Combatives (BJJ, wrestling), Muay Thai, and weapons in the training.
